Position: Head of High-Resolution Global Climate Modelling
Primary Institution: University of Reading
Number of years teaching or involved in training: 40
Number of years involved in NCAS training: 21
Certifications: Fluency in several languages
Speciality: Computational Modelling
Courses:
Course Lead for the Climate Modelling Summer School
Role:
I have 40 years experience over four continents: I have taught around the world, in several languages, and led or co-led summer schools at both national and international level. My teaching philosophy is fully hands-on: learn by doing, not by passively watching someone else do. Consequently, I spend two weeks at my NCAS Climate Modelling Summer School, every time I run it, working directly with students, all day, every day.
Grants:
CMSS was originally funded by the Foreign Office. It is now entirely based on UJCC (precursor to HRCM, our core NCAS grant, co-led with the Met Office), but underpinned by PRIMAVERA/HighResMIP, EERIE/HighResMIP2, NextGEMS (all EU funded, two of which I co-led), and by the ICCP-GSRA, funded by JSPS.
