Celebrating 30 years of the Centre for Environmental Data Analysis
Over the past three decades, the Centre for Environmental Data Analysis (CEDA) has played a crucial role in the UK’s atmospheric research.
2024 marks the 30th year that CEDA has provided essential data and information services, world-class data curation and archive services, flexible technologies for data analysis, and the supercomputer known as JASMIN.
CEDA is home to a dedicated and expert team of data scientists, software developers, digital infrastructure managers, helpdesk operators, communications and project managers – without which large scale environmental data storage and analysis would not be possible.
What we know as CEDA today was established in 1994, later launching the JASMIN supercomputer in 2012. The key services provided by CEDA are:
- Long-term data archive, known as the CEDA Archive. This hosts over 25+ petabytes of atmospheric and earth observation data.
- Data intensive supercomputer called JASMIN.
- Research support
These services are provided on behalf of the Natural Environment Research Council, via the National Centre for Atmospheric Science and the National Centre for Earth Observation. CEDA is located in the RAL Space department of the Science and Technology Facilities Council.
Besides the National Centre for Atmospheric Science, some of CEDA’s collaborators include other NERC Environmental Data Centres, the European Space Agency, and the UK Met Office.
We are excited for a future of atmospheric research innovation, growth and collaboration with CEDA at our side!
