Event: Bridging Horizons in Atmospheric Science for the early career community

The National Centre for Atmospheric Science (NCAS) is hosting Harmony in the Skies: Bridging Horizons in Atmospheric Science – a symposium is for the early career atmospheric science community and our training course alumni, which will take place on Thursday 6 March – Friday 7 March 2025 in Leeds, at Fairbairn House – the NCAS headquarters.

The event is for people early in their atmospheric science career. Through a series of workshops, short talks, and discussions, this event will provide a forum for sharing ideas and best practices to ensure that our science is carried out with integrity.

This event is for those early in their career in atmospheric science, including NCAS staff, PhD students, members of the wider atmospheric science community, and those who have attended NCAS training courses.  The event is aimed at anyone working in atmospheric science, not just researchers.

The symposium is free to attend, and accommodation will be provided for all delegates if required on Thursday 6 March 2025.

The theme for this year’s symposium is Integrity

We aim to cover areas such as:

  • Scientific integrity
  • Data integrity
  • Intellectual property and authorship
  • Morality and ethics within research
  • Interpersonal connections and team building

Our programme will also focus on a wide range of skills development to support career progression including communication, recruitment and interviewing, and embedding equality, diversity and inclusion.

All symposium attendees will be offered the opportunity to contribute to the programme of events either through a short talk, or by presenting at our showcase. Our theme of Integrity can help guide these talks and showcases, providing an anchor point for the exploration of your research and work areas.
