NCAS achieves Silver TIDE Award for commitment to inclusion

We are delighted to share that the National Centre for Atmospheric Science has been granted a Silver Talent Inclusion, Diversity and  Equality (TIDE) Award by the Employers Network for Equality and Inclusion (enei).

The TIDE awards celebrate organisations that are making real progress towards creating fair, inclusive, and supportive workplaces. Alongside other leading organisations, NCAS has achieved Silver status, recognising our commitment to embedding equality, diversity, and inclusion in everything we do.

TIDE awards (Gold, Silver, and Bronze) are achieved by an organisation for their performance and progress across 10 key areas: Diversity Data Monitoring, Strategy and Planning, DEI Training, Inclusive Leadership, Inclusive Recruitment, Talent Management and Development, Working Practices, Employee Voice and Engagement, Values and Behaviours, and Wellbeing and Belonging.

This recognition reflects the steps we have taken over the past year to strengthen our inclusive culture – from how we recruit and support new colleagues, to the opportunities we create for professional development, to our approach to staff wellbeing and engagement.

We are extremely proud to have gone from no award to Silver status in three years. This shows how much progress we’ve made, and how committed we are to building a truly inclusive workplace.

We know there is more to do, but this achievement is a fantastic milestone that we can all celebrate together, and was made all the more possible thanks to dedicated equality, diversity, and inclusion funding from the Natural Environment Research Council.

Lisa Banton – Head of People at the National Centre for Atmospheric Science.

Lisa Banton, Head of People at the National Centre for Atmospheric Science shares:

“We scored 71% overall compared with 43% last year, and are now at the “Embed” stage of our EDI journey. That means we’re at stage 4 out of 5, which I’m really proud of. Our top performing areas are wellbeing and belonging, employee voice and engagement, inclusive recruitment, strategy and planning, and talent management and development. Moving forward, we’ll be striving for Gold status by continuing the great work we’re already doing and by strengthening partnerships with our host institutions.”

Thank you to all our staff and partners who continue to support and champion our efforts towards making NCAS an inclusive, welcoming, and fair place to work.
