Course: Study atmospheric science

The National Centre for Atmospheric Science (NCAS) is now accepting applications for its Introduction to Scientific Computing course – a broad overview of atmospheric science, designed to lay down the foundation for more detailed study and fieldwork.

8-12 February 2027
NCAS Headquarters, University of Leeds

Running early next year, this course will introduce you to the key concepts of atmospheric science, broadening your understanding of atmospheric processes and interactions. You will build your knowledge while developing an awareness of how your work relates to others in the atmospheric science community.

The key areas covered in the course are:

  • Introduction to weather systems (including atmospheric thermodynamics, weather systems, cloud physics, atmospheric boundary layer)
  • Atmospheric composition of the mesosphere, stratosphere and troposphere
  • Air quality and atmospheric aerosols
  • Climate (including variability and modelling, atmospheric chemistry, radiative forcings)
