Join two weeks of practical atmospheric science in the Lake District

The Atmospheric Measurement and Modelling Summer School, delivered by the National Centre for Atmospheric Science, is a unique opportunity to practice atmospheric fieldwork.

The course takes place on 12 May – 23 May 2025, at the Blencathra Field Studies Council Centre, Cumbria.

This course is designed for PhD students and early career researchers in environmental science, but anyone who wants to work with observational atmospheric data is welcome! You might be a modeller, or someone who is specialising in fieldwork measurements.

This is a unique opportunity to learn how measurements and modelling need to co-exist to answer scientific questions. You will learn how to collect and use weather data to investigate local atmospheric conditions and make better forecasts.

Besides getting to learn from NCAS experts in atmospheric measurements and modelling, you will also meet like-minded individuals, expand your network and make friends, all while enjoying the stunning views of the Lake District.

This summer school is an excellent resource for improving practical measurement techniques and understanding what is involved in a field campaign, from start to finish. The Lake District location and facilities offers an excellent opportunity to meet and connect with fellow researchers of the future. Outstanding lecturer support and knowledge, fun practical activities, and awesome views!
