Job Opportunity: Head of Observations

We are looking for a Head of Observations to lead and shape the future of NCAS’s atmospheric measurement and observational science capability.

Are you an inspiring scientific leader with a strong track record in atmospheric observations, environmental monitoring, or research infrastructure? Do you have the vision to drive innovation in observational technologies while leading a distributed community of scientists, engineers, and technical specialists?

We are seeking an exceptional leader to guide NCAS Atmospheric Observations into its next chapter. Working with colleagues across NCAS and partner universities, you will provide strategic leadership for our portfolio of long-term measurement sites, advanced gas and aerosol observations, remote sensing facilities, and emerging observational technologies. You will play a key role in ensuring the delivery of world-class data, facilities, and research that underpin national and international atmospheric science.

This is a high-profile and influential role with the opportunity to shape scientific capability across NCAS, the UK, and beyond. One day you could be setting the strategic direction for major observational programmes and research infrastructure; the next, working with researchers, partners and stakeholders to develop new technologies, data products and services.

As a leader within a collaborative and partnership-based organisation, you will be equally comfortable communicating a long-term vision and supporting the practical delivery of complex scientific activities.
