Join a highly-regarded team of computational scientists to help deliver world-leading climate and Earth-System science. Work with state-of-the-art data analysis codes and on the infrastructure that supports the global climate change research effort.

Our Computational Modelling Services support the UK climate and weather research communities, spanning all areas of the modelling workflow from computational resource allocation and management, to running complex climate simulations, to handling data storage and analysis. We develop software and are responsible for installing and maintaining world-leading climate modelling systems on the UK’s most powerful high-performance computers.

The post holder will join the Computational Modelling Services to develop and optimise software libraries used for data analysis and metadata archiving, and develop community standards in support of international climate modelling efforts for which we are a major contributor.

Role requirements

  • A first degree with a strong numerical or computational component
  • Knowledge of modern software development and software engineering practices
  • Python programming
  • Working in a Linux/Unix environment
  • Desire to overcome technical challenges and improve existing systems
