Looking for a PhD supervisor or placement host?

NCAS brings together world-leading researchers from across the UK, providing access to a breadth of expertise spanning atmospheric science, weather and climate, air quality, Earth observation, environmental modelling, field measurements, data science and more.

We can help universities, research institutes, government departments, and industry partners identify NCAS scientists who may be available to offer PhD supervision, co-supervision, advisory roles, or placement opportunities for postgraduate researchers.

Supervision

If you are developing a PhD project and are looking for specialist expertise, we encourage you to get in touch.

Whether you need a collaborator with experience in a specific scientific discipline, access to unique facilities and observations, or support for an interdisciplinary research project, NCAS can help connect you with appropriate researchers from across our community. Opportunities for involvement will depend on expertise, capacity and project alignment, but we welcome early discussions with prospective collaborators.

Placements

NCAS may also be able to offer placements and research visits for PhD students on a bespoke, case-by-case basis.

These opportunities can provide postgraduate researchers with valuable experience of working within a national research infrastructure, alongside leading scientists and technical specialists.
Placements may involve contributing to ongoing research projects, developing specialist skills, gaining experience with observational or experimental facilities, modelling, data resources, science communication, or engaging with wider activities that support environmental science research.

As opportunities vary across our community, we encourage supervisors and students to discuss their requirements with us at an early stage so that we can explore potential options and identify suitable hosts.
